Overview:
This retail space was designed to highlight and celebrate the richness of Ecuadorian craftsmanship. Located at Quito’s international airport, the store serves as a cultural gateway—offering travelers a curated selection of handmade products created by local artisans from across the country.
Concept & Objective:
The main goal was to create a retail environment that not only functions as a point of sale, but also tells a story—one rooted in tradition, diversity, and color. Every element, from layout to product presentation, was carefully designed to showcase the uniqueness of each handcrafted piece and reflect the vibrant spirit of Ecuadorian culture.
My Role:
- Developed the store’s visual identity and conceptual design
- Designed the spatial layout to create flow and focus points
- Curated displays to highlight artisan techniques, materials, and cultural origin
- Designed props and furniture inspired by traditional Ecuadorian textures and forms
- Implemented a color palette inspired by the Andean highlands, coastal crafts, and Amazonian detail
Design Approach:
- Emphasized the individuality of each product by creating open, gallery-style display zones
- Used natural materials and handcrafted elements to maintain authenticity
- Integrated storytelling through signage and product information to educate and connect with the customer
- Highlighted the color diversity of Ecuadorian culture to create an immersive, joyful shopping experience
Results:
- A visually striking space that attracts international travelers and elevates the perception of local craftsmanship
